Chorus Awards

<<- Return to the Convention Page

Choruses may compete in two categories:  Open and International Divisions.

Open Division contestants sing a package of songs that includes emcee work and receive letter level scoring.  Open Division contestants are eligible for audience choice awards which are determined by audience balloting.

International Division contestants sing two songs and receive numeric scoring.  There are three chorus categories – Division A, 12-30 singers; Division AA, 31-60 singers; and overall, all choruses. Division counts do not include the director.

Medals are determined by scoring from the panel of judges.  These awards are presented as follows:

Most Improved Chorus – This trophy will be awarded to the chorus scoring the largest increase of points over the previous year’s score.  Only choruses in the International Division are eligible.  Winning here does not preclude the chorus from other awards.

Division A Choruses – The three highest scoring choruses within this division receive medals.  Winning here does not preclude the chorus from other awards.

Division AA Choruses – The three highest scoring choruses within this division receive medals.  Winning here does not preclude the chorus from other awards.

Overall – The five highest scoring choruses receive medals.  This champion advances to the International Chorus Semi-Finals in the following fall.

Midwest Harmony Region 3 presents the following awards:

Membership Chorus of the Year – Presented to the chorus with the largest growth in membership.  The chorus receives a trophy and a monetary gift.

Renée Porzel Showmanship Trophy – This award honors our 2012-2014 International President.  The stylish trophy is presented to the chorus scoring highest in the Visual Communication category that is not the Division A Champion Chorus, the Division AA Champion Chorus or the Regional Champion Chorus.  Only choruses in the International Division are eligible.

Joan Boutilier Director’s Trophies – This award honors our 2020-2022 International President’s passion for being a chorus director.  The trophies are presented to the three champion directors:  Division A, Division AA and Overall
